The Election Returning Officer (ERO) reviewed all of the nomination packages received by the deadline, based on the authority provided by the Bylaw, the Election Policy, and the requirements specified in the call for nominations. After the review, the ERO and Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) deemed three nominations as eligible. One position had no eligible nominations. Accordingly, all nominations have been adjudicated by acclamation (uncontested). The GSA Bylaw prescribes the election of Board Members by default if no more than one candidate is eligible for a position. Since no appeals were received from unsuccessful nominees within the allotted time, as per the By-Election Policy, the successful candidates are:
GSA President: Md Khalid Iqbal (MISSM)
Vice President (VP) Academic/External Affairs: Ramya Nekkanti
Vice President (VP) Finance and Services: Shihab Sharar Isa (MISAM)
Vice President (VP) Student Affairs: Kavya Sathya (MISAM)
Congratulations to the new GSA Directors! On behalf of the ERO and the Faculty of Graduate Studies, a sincere thank you to all the nominees for filling these positions. After they have submitted clear police record checks to the ERO, the incoming Board Members will start to work with the outgoing team in the coming weeks, to ensure a smooth and prompt transition.
The official start date for the new Board will be May 1, 2023, and the end date will be April 30, 2024.
